Both New Zealand teams will be looking to improve on their most recent efforts on Australian soil, which came at the Sydney sevens tournament last weekend.
After cruising through to the final on the back of Portia Woodman’s prolific try-scoring form, the women had to settle for second place after being thrashed 31-0 by hosts Australia, while the men could only manage a fifth place finish after being bundled out in the quarterfinals by the same opponents.
The New Zealand men’s sevens will play at the inaugural Hamilton sevens tournament this weekend. They are currently second in the World Series standings – below South Africa – after three rounds, having finished second in Dubai and first in Cape Town.
